Yes, it’s happening again. The Art Collective 8 is near. If you have nothing to do Monday evening or even if you do, drop all and come down to Lucky’s on December 1. This is such a great way to get to know established and emerging local artists! Plus, I hold this event dear to me because the second time I went, I blogged about it in my very first JAM article!
If you’ve never been to one of these events, no worries. It is so low key that you can wander around without the pressure of talking to anyone. It’s just so nice seeing people out supporting local artists. This twice yearly event is great for artists and patrons. The great aspect for artists is that there is no fee to be a part of this, no one takes a percentage of your sales, and you have other artists to talk to.
This event was started in 2010 by local artist and Lucky’s bartender Em Nguyen. At one point she was on the fence about continuing the tradition, but she told local artists in an email that “there seems to be a lot of interest in another show so I thought why not! I always enjoy doing the shows and you guys always bring out the best of the local art scene in Sioux Falls!”
I especially like watching the artists in action. Some of them are working on a piece for the raffle at the end of the night. You don’t have to be present to win. It’s amazing how time flies when you’re there. I’ve been looking forward to this event since the last one in July! If you can’t think of that perfect present for a loved one, come check out the 40+ local artist at Lucky’s and find the perfect gift for the season!
The Art Collective poster is designed by local artist Solomon Carlson.
