Taking the Time to Meditate: Prayer Rug Skateboards

Mounir Fatmi is touching on something a bit more culturally saleable in his new work. Donning skateboards with a more intensely centering motif of Islamic prayer rugs. I love this juxtaposition of religion and pop culture. Mounir himself referring to the loosening of religious dogmas on our current culture and the desecration of the sacred.

From my own experience I see these as the indoctrination of a new god: Skateboarding. I would love to own one just based on my reverence for the sport and the practice that I find centering in its own right and a creative exploration of our shared spaces.

Emerging Artist: Gabriele Beveridge

I have nothing but admiration for Beveridge, a London based artist who constantly puts out work that feels very new and contemporary. Her assemblages are striking and hold an amazing balance of strangeness and intrigue. Often very abstract work that plays in commercial material and absurd juxtapositions.
